It is important to receive good prenatal care from a physician as early in your pregnancy as possible. You have the choice of several board-certified obstetricians and family physicians who provide prenatal care and delivery services at Marquette General Hospital.

Childbirth Education

Nothing you do in life is more important than becoming a parent. This is why you should consider our childbirth education program. By preparing you and your coach for the birth of your baby, we can help you feel more comfortable about the birth process. Having provided quality childbirth education for over 25 years, our educators provide instruction on various techniques to make your childbirth experience a positive one.

The Delivery

It's finally here. The day you have been preparing for all these months. At the Family Birthing Center, we do everything to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible. Our birthing suites will enable you to labor, deliver, and recover in the same room. Your support person and baby can remain in your room during your stay, and visiting hours are flexible. All of this, combined with a nurturing, caring staff, will make your delivery a rewarding experience.

Specialized Care

In today's world, most babies are born without difficulties. However, if a problem does arise, it is reassuring to know that we have a Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the highest level of service available in the Upper Peninsula. A neonatologist specializing in high-risk infants, certified and caring nurses, along with specialized diagnostic equipment, support staff and the most advanced technology are available to monitor the status of both you and your baby.

• Our Maternal/Child Social Worker can assist
you with any financial or support needs you may have.

• Breast pumps are available for rental or purchase.

• Overnight lodging for delivering parents living outside of Marquette County or for parents who have a baby in the NICU is available through the hospital accommodations program.

• If needed, our Resolve Through Sharing Bereavement Program can help parents who have lost a baby.

• Our Regional Perinatal Outreach Program provides continuing education on perinatal topics for nurses and physicians.

Parenting Education

Caring for your baby doesn't stop when you leave the hospital. You have many years ahead to enjoy your child's stages of development. Take advantage of one or several of our exciting parenting programs tailored to those stages, from birth through 17 years. Enjoy the opportunity to share and socialize with other parents as you learn about growth and development, nutrition, discipline, skills for positive parenting.

Pediatric Care

Children are not adults. Children have special needs. You can rest assured that if your child needs hospitalization, they will receive the best care by nurturing pediatric nurses and Pediatricians.

Specialty Clinics

Unique specialty clinics are offered regularly to enable parents of children with chronic special needs to have appointments with pediatricians, psychologists, therapists, dietitians, and pediatric subspecialists all in one day.
