“MATCH DAY” A RESOUNDING SUCCESS FOR U.P. CAMPUS OF MSU MEDICAL SCHOOL AND MGHS RESIDENCY PROGRAM
10 U.P. MEDICAL SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN LOCATIONS FOR
RESIDENCY TRAINING; RESIDENCY PROGRAM ANNOUNCES
6 NEW PHYSICIANS FOR U.P. PROGRAM
MARQUETTE, MI.; When the clock struck twelve noon on Thursday, March 18, 2010, the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation staff watched mesmerized as the medical students in the Class of 2010 tore into sealed envelopes and revealed the location that they’ll spend the next 3 to 5 years in training as new physicians.
The ten graduating students from the U.P. Campus of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine recently spent weeks traveling to different locations around the country, interviewing for residency training spots in their specialties. Thanks to an innovative software program called ERAS, both the students and residencies were able to rank their choices, and at the deadline, produce a report that matched up the students with the residency programs.
The match ceremony kicked off a luncheon in the U.P. Campus students’ honor, allowing them time together to discuss their next steps on the journey to become doctors of medicine.
“We are very pleased to announce that all ten of our U.P. students ‘matched,’ and that they will be continuing their training as physicians at some of the best programs in the country,” said Dr. David Luoma, CEO of UPHEC and Assistant Dean of the MSU-CHM U.P. Campus. “We also are delighted to announce that our matches for the residency here in Marquette will bring six of the brightest new physicians to the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program.”
