Dr. Clarke is an Assistant Director at the Residency. She was born and raised in rural lower Michigan, receiving her bachelor degree from Albion College with majors in Biology and Psychology. She received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine on the UP Campus and completed her Family Practice Residency training at the Mid-Michigan Regional Medical Center in Midland.
Dr. Clarke is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and completed a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship at MSU. She is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice, the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine and the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
Immediately following her residency training, Dr. Clarke returned to the Upper Peninsula and practiced in the rural community of Ironwood for a total of seven years. Her practice there included the full spectrum of family practice. During this time she served as a preceptor for medical students, which led to her interest in teaching. She then joined the Residency Program in 2000.
Special interests include Resident well being, family-centered maternity care, rural health care issues, women’s health care, and international medical missions. She is the faculty advisor for the first-year residents and is also the Director for the Family Medicine Clerkship for the medical students at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Upper Peninsula Campus. She particularly enjoys the interactions with the medical students and residents and sees them as an “opportunity to help develop tomorrow’s physicians.”
