Dr. Hoenke is the Medical Director of the MGH Primary Care Network and an Assistant Director of the residency program. He graduated from the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program in 1985 and fulfilled a three-year National Health Service Corps (NHSC) commitment in a full-time rural practice before returning.
A native of Lower Michigan, Dr. Hoenke attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. After his residency, where he served as co-chief resident, he was medical director of his NHSC clinic and of a large nursing home. While in practice he completed the Faculty Development Fellowship at Michigan State University. He is board certified in Family Practice and Geriatrics.
Dr. Hoenke is the quality assurance coordinator for the residency. His clinical interests include outpatient procedures, geriatrics, and rural medicine, but he remains a generalist with eclectic interests in ambulatory and hospital medicine. He directs clinical outpatient operations.
Dr. Hoenke is a devoted fisherman and hunter who is also involved in cross country skiing, camping, canoeing, book collecting, gardening, and marine aquaria. He is married with eight children.
