Newberry
patient grateful for telehealth technology - ‘It saves
me a lot of time’
William
Green of Newberry could have settled in behind the wheel
of his car and made the 100-mile trip to Marquette for a
follow-up medical appointment with his internal medicine
physician.
Instead,
he made a short drive to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in
Newberry, and through telehealth technology, had his doctor’s
appointment with Marquette General Hospital infectious disease
specialist Dr.
John Wallace.

Stephanie
Craddock had two wishes come true in a matter of 48 hours.
First,
the Gwinn native gave birth to her first child: Ethan, an
8-pound, 19-inch boy in the Family Birthing Center at Marquette
General Hospital.
Then,
her husband, Andrew, was able to visit with her and their
new son.

Upper
Peninsula hemodialysis patients are benefiting from telemedicine
services
Telemedicine
services are now available to three outlying hemodialysis
units; Western U.P. Dialysis Center in Hancock, the Eastern
U.P. Dialysis Center in Newberry, and the Iron County Community
Hospital dialysis unit in Crystal Falls.
With
the assistance of USDA Rural Development Telemedicine Grant
equipment was placed in the three-dialysis units. The equipment
allows wireless telemedicine services within the dialysis
units. Dialysis patients will be able to receive clinical
services, and their caregivers will access continuing education
programs via the systems.
