Services Provided
Clinical Telemedicine - Very simply, telemedicine is long distance medical care. It allows you to be at your medical appointment without traveling to your specialist’s office. Using video technology, you will be able to see and hear your doctor. Your doctor can do more than see and hear you. Patient exam cameras, electronic stethoscopes and other telemedicine equipment help your doctor assess your needs. Telemedicine uses connections that are private and secure. Ask your doctor if telemedicine is right for you.

Distance Education - UPTN offers a full range of quality educational services. Through telehealth, staff continue to access on-going educational opportunities, increasing the range of skills in the provision of health care in their local communities. Additionally, a web-based system is available for continuing education at https://mghsondemand.mgh.org.
Administrative Meetings - Imagine heading out at 6am for an 8am meeting on snow-covered roads with blowing and drifting, and the occasional whitetail deer darting across the highway. Or arriving at a meeting only to discover it had been cancelled or moved to another date and time. Using video conferencing technologies can reduce travel hazards and frustrations with meeting changes.
Medical Case Conference - Video conferencing technology allows confidential live, interactive discussions about patient cases. An example would be the weekly “Tumor Board,” where a group of oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, case managers, and primary care physicians meet via video conference to discuss individual cancer cases in order to develop a comprehensive treatment plan for each patient.
Community Health Education - Video conferencing technology allows distance educational opportunities to communities throughout the Upper Peninsula. MGHSonDemand, a web-based system is also available for public/community education at https://mghsondemand.mgh.org.
Family Visits/Bondings - Families of patients throughout the region can utilize the telehealth technologies to connect with their loved ones from a distance. Patients and families who have taken advantage of this technology include; patients in neutropenic precautions with young children who could not physically enter the rooms, patients who have been hospitalized for a long period of time who need/want to talk with their local support system some distance away, babies who are transferred to the NICU while mother recovers at a distant location, precious goodbyes to those patients facing their end of life, and hospitalized patients waiting to be part of a significant family event.
