Tobacco
free for your health.....tobacco free, for the health of it!.
| January
1, 2007 was the official day when the entire MGHS system,
(Main Campus, Clinic & Home Health) went tobacco free.
What this means to you is that MGHS employees, visitors, and
vendors will not be permitted to use tobaccco at any MGHS
facility or location.

This initiative
began at the request of physicians, employees, and visitors, and
has met with overwhelming support not only by them, but also MGHS
Board of Directors and Senior Management. In Michigan, many other
hospitals are tobacco free, including University of Michigan, Spectrum
Health, Portage Health System, and War Memorial, to name a few.
A committee has been meeting monthly since May 2004 to draft and
approve the tobacco free plan. The comprehensive plan will offer
support for those who decide to quit smoking.
MGHS Mission
is “to improve the health status of the residents of Marquette
County, the Upper Peninsula, and the surrounding region.”
By committing to be a tobacco free system, we are further contributing
to the mission and improving the health status of the peninsula.
Customers, visitors and employees will not be permitted to use tobacco
products on MGHS property, owned or rented. This decision, as most
decisions, come with positives and negatives for all involved.
We want to hear
your input and suggestions, and have set up an
specifically for you to get your questions answered,
and your comments heard.
