The Clinic

A focal point of residency training is the FamilyCare Doctors office, with more than 36,000 patient visits a year. Located at Peninsula Medical, only a few blocks from the hospital, FamilyCare Doctors provides comprehensive care for a diverse patient population.

Same day urgent care and evening care provide the resident with opportunities to see patients with minor emergencies in the office.

It has been said that practice in Marquette is evocative of small-town America, where people know each other and where patients genuinely appreciate their physicians. The patients of FamilyCare certainly fit this description.

Residents have increasing responsibility for patient care, and fulltime family medicine faculty are always present for teaching and consultation. All aspects of patient care are covered through direct observation, videotaping, precepting, and chart review. The behavioral scientist, patient educator, nurses and fellow residents contribute to an environment where excellence and education are inseparable.

Specialty consultation is readily available within Peninsula Medical. Easy access to radiology, laboratory, pharmacy services and home health agencies complements the broad range of services, testing and treatment available in our office.

A first year resident sees five to eight patients on each of the two half-days in the office each week. A second-year resident sees approximately six to ten patients during three half-days. This increases to 10-14 patients for a third-year resident on each of four half-days per week in the office. All faculty members see patients on a regular basis.

We have a strong interest in involving patients in their own health care. Emphasis is placed on patient education within the FamilyCare Doctors suite, with special direction from our health educator.

We also have a strong interest in seeing our graduates leave with a good procedural background in outpatient medicine including sigmoidoscopy, vasectomy and colposcopy. A high volume practice with broad clinical opportunities, an involved patient population, and close supervision make FamilyCare Doctors an outstanding part of the resident's training.

Peninsula Medical provides private offices for more than 120 physicians, dentists and psychologists, and houses the Family Medicine Residency training center, FamilyCare Doctors.

More than one-half million patients visit Peninsula Medical annually. A developed referral service often allows same-day appointments.
