Jay Roy, CPO, C.Ped, ABC Certified Orthotist/Prosthetist for Upper Peninsula Orthotic & Prosthetic assists a patient learning to use an artificial leg on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Using the latest technology, orthotics and prosthetics are customized to meet the patient’s needs.

Facilities and Equipment

Chris Kotila, Physical Therapist, assists a patient with the Lite Gait system. The Lite Gait is a specially designed treadmill and suspension harness that can unweight the legs, provide rhythmical input and reinforce a coordinated pattern of movement.

Rehab Dining Room

Deb Nance, Social Worker, celebrates with patients on the Inpatient Rehab Unit during a Rehab holiday party. Patients are invited to eat in the dining room as part of increasing their mobility and gaining independence.

Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Kitchenette

Tiffany Paavola, Occupational Therapist, assists a patient learning how to use an adaptive reacher to retrieve items from high shelves on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Adaptive equipment allows patients to be more independent once they return home.

Jeanette Tousignant, Physical Therapist for the Outpatient Neuron Rehab Program, assists a patient learning the safest way to tread with a walker as to avoid falls and injury.

Sharon Morcom and her dog, Murphy, pet partners for the Upper Michigan Dog Therapy Partnership (UMDTP), visit with a patient on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Pet partners from the UMDTP make weekly visits to patients.

Getting Home Safely

John Vargo, PT Technician; Brad Jackson, Physical Therapist; and Chris Kotila, Physical Therapist; practice patient car transfers at the Main Entrance of Marquette General Hospital. Getting home safely is part of the education and training patients and families receive before discharge from the Inpatient Rehab Unit.
