Hearing
allows you to communicate with friends and family and keeps
you in contact with the sounds of everyday life. The loss
of hearing creates an invisible handicap that can affect your
personal and professional life. For many who have a medically
untreatable hearing loss, hearing aids can be the key to returning
to a more normal and active lifestyle.

Newborn Hearing Screenings
Hearing
loss is the most common birth defect in newborn infants
occurring in about 1 in 200 babies. Early detection
and intervention is crucial for normal speech, language,
cognitive, and social development. All babies born
at Marquette General Hospital have their hearing screened

Additional
Services
Marquette General Audiology provides complete repair and
service of your hearing aids during regular business hours.
To ensure prompt service, patients should call in advance.
You may purchase all of your hearing aid supplies, including
batteries, at Marquette General Audiology. In addition, we

Insurance Coverage
Medicare, like many other insurers, does not pay for hearing
aids. Insurers who do cover hearing aids may not cover the
additional cost for special styles or options. Patients
who have insurance coverage for amplification may be required
to obtain medical clearance from a physician before obtaining
audiology services. You will be responsible for contacting
your insurance company regarding coverage. The audiologists
can also assist you with any questions you may have.
Fees
The hearing test, hearing aid selection appointment and
medical clearance by your physician (when necessary) are
separate from the cost of the hearing aid/s. The cost of
the hearing aids cannot be charged to your hospital account.
You may pay by cash, check or credit card.
Trial
Period
In compliance with state regulations, a 30-day trial period
with amplification devices is required for patients. If
the hearing aids are returned for credit, a nominal return
fee is charged.
