Marquette General offers free peripheral vascular screenings in Escanaba
June 5 by appointment
A free screening for peripheral artery disease (PAD) will be offered at North Shore Internal Medicine in Escanaba, Tuesday, June 5 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. by appointment.
Peripheral arteries are the vessels carrying oxygenated blood to areas of the body other than the heart and brain. Occurring most commonly in the pelvis and legs, peripheral artery disease affects eight to twelve million people nationwide. Without early detection and treatment, one in four people with PAD will suffer a heart attack, stroke, or amputation.
Health conditions that indicate higher risk for peripheral artery disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, history of smoking, or family history of arterial disease.
The free noninvasive screening is for anyone 55 years of age and older who has diabetes, who smokes or has ever smoked, and anyone over the age of 70.
To register for an appointment for this free screening, please call Marquette General Vascular Services at 1-866-644-8272. A limited number of appointments is available.
