Sundberg named Director of Safety and Risk Management at Marquette General Hospital

Alyson Sundberg has been named Director of Safety and Risk Management, and Safety Officer, at Marquette General Hospital.

As a Safety Officer, Sundberg will monitor and correct any conditions that could cause personal injury to patients, visitors or employees. She will also protect equipment and buildings from damage/loss, including occurrences and investigations/corrective actions. This includes developing safety plans and emergency preparedness plans, and testing these plans routinely to assure that they provide the level of protection needed.

Sundberg sits on the Marquette County Central Dispatch Policy Board, the Region 8 Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Planning Board, the Upper Peninsula Regional Homeland Security Board, and is part of the American Heart Association as Michigan BLS and ACLS Regional Faculty.

Sundberg’s training includes the Michigan State Police Hazardous Materials Operations Supervisor Level, Air Quality Monitoring and Respiratory Protection Program; Mine Safety & Health Administration Instructor; Emergency Response Planning through Michigan State University’s School of Criminal Justice; and the FEMA Emergency/Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Program. She worked in Health and Safety for five years on various jobsites for the Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., including many government and private industry hazardous material clean-up sites. She also worked for Northern Safety Consultants, Inc., who provided air monitoring and industrial hygiene services.

Sundberg is an approved lecturer for the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) on Health/Medical Issues in Asbestos Abatement, Lead Abatement, Indoor Quality Monitoring, Confined Space Entry, Workplace Respiratory Safety and Personal Protective Equipment.

An MGH employee for eight years, she has been in EMS as an EMT, then a Paramedic for seventeen years. Sundberg has also worked in the MGH lab and medical records, and has held leadership roles in the Marquette County Medical Control Authority, with which she has been involved for the past ten years.

Sundberg is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration at Northern Michigan University and at Baker Center for Graduate Studies in Flint, Michigan. She holds an associate degree from NMU and is licensed through the MDCH as a Paramedic and an EMS Instructor-Coordinator.

A graduate of Westwood High School, Sundberg currently resides in Ishpeming with her 21-year-old son, Stephen Nault.
