Emergency Medicine Physician joins Marquette General Medical Staff

Dr. Stevens joins Emergency Medicine Associates of Marquette comprising James Addison, MD; Kevin Aston, DO; Robin Cook, MD; Scott Emerson, MD; Scott Hagle, MD; Jeffrey Shipkey, DO; Donald Snowdon, MD; Richard Tomacari, DO; and Steven Verbridge, DO.

As an emergency medicine specialist, Dr. Stevens provides treatment for all trauma and any life or limb-threatening situations, as well as medical problems of an urgent nature. Emergency specialists stabilize critically ill or injured patients and determine what subspecialty care is needed. Emergency physicians are also responsible for pre-hospital care including the supervision of paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) before the patient reaches the hospital.

Dr. Stevens has done volunteer work in Honduras and New Guinea, assisting rural medical mission hospitals with deliveries, surgeries and treatment of everything from malaria to kwashiorkor, a type of childhood malnutrition. Dr. Stevens is a past president of the MSU Wilderness Medical Society Student Interest Group, where he was responsible for planning and organizing lectures and trips.

Board eligible in emergency medicine, Dr. Stevens completed his residency at Michigan State University Emergency Medicine in Lansing, Mich. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Mich.
