Students learn about brain and spinal cord injury prevention

Father Marquette Middle School 6th grade student Katie Pryor demonstrates how the Halo cervical traction device is worn with the assistance of Marquette General Hospital’s EMS Paramedic/RN Gary Gustafson, who is also the hospital's Injury Prevention Coordinator.

The presentation focused on brain and spinal cord injuries, and how something as simple as wearing a helmet can reduce some of these injuries by as much as 85 percent. The presentation was done in conjunction with the MGH Trauma Department, MGH EMS and Upper Peninsula Partnerships for Safety.
