Public seminar by bariatric surgeon Dr. Wayne English Monday Feb. 18
An educational seminar on extreme obesity and surgical options available for weight reduction will be offered Monday, February 18, at 6 p.m. in Conference Room 1 at Marquette General Hospital.
Bariatric Surgeon Dr. Wayne English of the Marquette General Hospital Medical Staff will describe the types of weight loss surgeries, focusing on Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. He will also explain who meets the requirements for surgery, the guidelines patients must follow before and after surgery, and the lifestyle changes that are necessary following the surgery.

The presentation will also discuss the importance of post-bariatric surgery support groups that are available at Marquette General Hospital and throughout the Upper Peninsula via the Telehealth videoconference system.
Members of the multidisciplinary team that works with each person before and after surgery will also be present to answer questions. Their involvement with each patient enhances the likelihood of long-term success for post-bariatric patients.
To reach the Marquette General Conference Center, park in Lot A on the corner of College Avenue and Hebard Court, enter the hospital through the East Entrance, take the elevator to the third floor, and exit to the right. For those using the parking deck, take the skywalk across College Avenue, turn left in the corridor and follow signs to the Conference Center.
