Emergency Medical Technician Course offered through U.P. hospitals
Registration deadline December 14
The Marquette General Health System School of Emergency Medical Technology is offering an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic course at Marquette General Hospital and by videoconference to community hospitals throughout the U.P. beginning January 7, 2008.
Classes will be Monday and Wednesday from 6-10 p.m. for 22 weeks. The registration deadline for this course is December 14, 2007.
Students will participate in didactic lectures via videoconference, while local EMS instructors provide the practical skills training at each participating hospital.
Students who attend EMS courses through the School of EMT are trained to exceed the national standards set by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration. Upon successful completion of the courses, students are recommended for testing through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
The availability of distance education technology has made EMS education much more convenient to nearly seventy-five EMS agencies comprising primarily volunteers throughout the Upper Peninsula. The EMS courses are taught from Marquette General Health System via distance learning technology provided by the Upper Peninsula Telehealth Network.
