Sally Davis selected to receive 2008 Michigan State University Outreach Scholar Award - Award given each year by MSU
Sally Davis, program director for Telehealth, Grants Administration, Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery for Marquette General Health System, has been selected to receive the 2008 Outreach Scholarship Community Partnership Award, given by Michigan State University. The award recognizes Davis and her colleague, Pamela Whitten, MSU professor and assistant dean of the department of telecommunications, for their collaboration on telehealth research and leadership.

Sally Davis
Davis and Whitten have been collaborating since 1999. Their work includes several projects, research studies and peer-reviewed publications related to telehealth.
Davis and Whitten led the establishment of a telehealth resource center funded by the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth. The Midwest Alliance for Telehealth and Technology Resources provides technical assistance to new and evolving telehealth services in Michigan, Indiana and Kansas.
In 1994, Davis initiated the Upper Peninsula Telehealth Network, and has provided ongoing leadership to bring national attention to the program. The Network connects health care entities in the Upper Peninsula and beyond for clinical, educational and administrative applications. More than 8,000 patient-practitioner connections have taken place via this network.
In addition to her responsibilities in telehealth, Davis holds responsibilities in grant development and administration, weight management, surgical weight loss and management training. She previously served as the Director of Education at MGHS overseeing hospital-wide professional education, patient education, media services and the medical library.
Every year, one Outreach Scholarship Community Partnership Award is conferred upon an MSU researcher and her/his designated community partner. The Outreach Scholarship Award is jointly awarded to campus and community partners.
The award will be presented at the annual Founder’s Day award ceremony in February. The campus and community partners each receive a cash prize of $1,500 as well as public recognition for their work. Davis is going to donate her $1,500 cash prize to the Marquette General Foundation to be used for a future telehealth project.
