Cancer specialist joins MGHS medical staff
Serving Copper Country area patients full time
Cancer specialist
Irina Sachelarie MD has joined the medical staffs of Marquette
General Health System, Portage Health System, Keweenaw Memorial
Medical Center, and Baraga County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Sachelarie
is affiliated with Upper Peninsula Hematology/Oncology Associates-Copper
Country and is based at Portage Internal Medicine Associates in
Hancock, with regular clinic appointments available in Laurium
and Baraga.

Dr. Sachelarie recently completed her hematology/oncology fellowship
at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, New York. Her Internal
Medicine Residency was completed at Hospital of Saint Raphael,
Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.
She completed a transitional internship in Internal Medicine at
Fundeni Hospital, Bucharest, Romania, and earned her Doctorate
of Medicine at Carol Davila University Medical School in Bucharest,
Romania.
As a medical oncologist, Dr. Sachelarie provides diagnosis and
treatment for cancer patients. She decides on and administers
chemotherapy for malignancy, as well as consulting with surgeons,
radiotherapists, and other specialists on the management of cancer.
As a hematologist, Dr. Sachelarie provides diagnosis and treatment
of blood disorders, including anemia, bleeding disorders, sickle
cell disease, hemophilia, leukemia and lymphoma, and low platelet
counts.
