Marquette ophthalmologist becomes board certified
Marquette
ophthalmologist Dr. Sean Rooney has earned board certification
in ophthalmology. Physicians achieve
board certification after passing a rigorous series of written
and oral examinations in a given specialty.

Dr. Rooney is employed at Eye Associates of Marquette in the Peninsula Medical
Center and is on staff at Marquette General Health System.
Dr. Rooney completed a residency at the Casey Eye Institute, part of the Oregon
Health Sciences University, in Portland, Ore. He earned his medical degree
from the University of Illinois at Chicago where he was elected to the Alpha
Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. There, he also earned a Ph.D. in molecular
genetics.
Dr. Rooney holds a bachelor’s degree in space physics from the United
States Air Force Academy.
A Madison, Wis., native, Dr. Rooney is a member of a number of professional
organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology; the American
Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery; the American Society of Human Genetics;
and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
