Family Medicine Residency Program graduates six family medicine
physicians
Marquette
General Health System, in conjunction with Michigan
State University’s College of Human Medicine, held its
24th annual Family Medicine Residency Program graduation on Friday,
June 24, in the Conference Center at Marquette General Hospital.
A reception followed at Upfront and Company. The program produced
six graduates, including one Upper Peninsula native who will practice
near her hometown. Two other graduates are also planning to practice
in the U.P.
"The 2005 Class is an outstanding group of graduates,"
said Dr.
Bill Short, Program Director of the Residency Program. "They
are excellent family physicians who will provide outstanding care
to patients throughout their careers.”
The Family Medicine Residency Program is the Upper Peninsula’s
only post-graduate medical education program that trains family
physicians for practice in rural areas.
Here’s a capsule look at the six graduates:

Dr. Nicole Linder is a native of Carney. She
earned her medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit,
and holds a bachelor’s degree in physiology from Northern
Michigan University. She will work as a hospitalist for Doctors
Park Family Physicians in Escanaba, and will be on staff of both
Marquette General Hospital and OSF St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Linder
and her husband, Scott, have two children.

Dr. Anna Reese is a native of Stockholm, Sweden.
She earned her medical degree from the Karolinska Institutet,
one of Europe's largest medical universities and Sweden´s
largest center for medical training and research. She plans to
work as a hospitalist at Marquette General Hospital. Dr. Reese
and her husband, Ed, have two children.

Dr. Anup Sharma is originally from Hicksville,
N.Y. He earned his medical degree from the Fatima College of Medicine
in the Philippines, and owns bachelor’s degrees in psychology
and biochemistry from State University of New York at Stony Brook.
He plans to do an Internal Medicine Residency in New Brunswick,
N.J.

Dr. Adnan Zahid is a native of Chicago. He earned
his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Pakistan. He plans
to travel to Connecticut to do an Internal Medicine Residency
at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Conn. He is married
to Dr. Farah Hamdard, who is currently a second-year resident
in the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Laurie Braker is from downstate Muskegon.
She earned her medical degree from the Northwestern University
Medical School in Evanston, Ill., and holds bachelor’s degrees
in biology and bible from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. She
plans to work in family medicine in Lake Odessa, Mich. Dr. Braker
and her husband, Dan, have two children.

Dr. Meghana Kasetty is a native of Nagpur Maharashtra,
India. She earned her medical and undergraduate degrees from the
University of Amravati in India. She plans to work in family medicine
in Escanaba. Dr. Kasetty and her husband, Raghu, have one child.
The MGHS Family
Medicine Residency Program began in 1979. The program's purpose
is to train family medicine physicians to become competent in
practicing medicine in a rural setting, such as the Upper Peninsula.
The program has now produced 134 graduates, many who continue
to practice in the U.P.
