MGH
hosting free Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) screening for the
community
Event marks sixth consecutive year of free screenings
In a continuing
effort to detect and treat peripheral vascular disease (PVD) in
its early stages, Marquette General Hospital will again host a
free Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) screening program for the
community in late September.
During the “Legs For Life” screening, participants
will answer a brief questionnaire to assess their risk for PVD.
At-risk patients will also be screened for abdominal aortic aneurysm
with an abbreviated abdominal ultrasound exam. Marquette General’s
imaging department staff will determine the Ankle Brachial Index
(ABI) for signs of circulatory problems.
It’s designed for people with undiagnosed PVD or AAA. Those
who are currently seeing a physician or surgeon for either of
these conditions are not candidates for the screening.

Dr.
Robert Morley
Participants will meet with vascular interventional radiologist
Dr. Robert Morley, a member of Upper Michigan Cardiovascular Associates,
P.C., to discuss their results. Those with multiple risk factors
and symptoms, and those with abnormal ABIs, will be advised to
visit their primary care physician.
The screening will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday,
Sept. 29, in the Conference Center at Marquette General Hospital.
If the screening fills up, a second screening is tentatively planned
for Thursday, Nov. 8.
Pre-registration is required. From Tuesday, Sept. 13, through
Friday, Sept. 16, patients may call 906-225-3070 or 1-800-562-9753,
ext. 3070, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to make an appointment.
The PVD screening program is part of a national screening week
sponsored by the Society
of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (SCVIR).
For more information, call 225-3070 or 1-800-562-9753, ext. 3070.
