Dr. Eric Ittner recognized as Marquette General Health System Physician of the Year, The Nurses Choice
Hospitalist Eric Ittner, MD, has been selected as the recipient for the 2009 Physician of the Year, The Nurses Choice award. The most important factor in the selection of the recipient is the relationship between the physicians and the hospital staff.

“Dr. Ittner truly cares about his patients. He also treats the nursing staff with respect, listens to our input and takes the time to get to know everyone, patients and staff alike,” said Krystina Soucy, LPN.
Marquette General Health System President and CEO, A. Gary Muller, FACHE, said, “Dr. Ittner is exceedingly dedicated to MGHS patients. His loyalty is consistent with our mission of providing the best health care to the residents of the Upper Peninsula and beyond.”
As a hospitalist, Dr. Ittner coordinates and provides in-hospital care for patients at MGH. Even though a physician may also see their patients in the hospital, Dr. Ittner can order medications and tests and follow the patient’s progress on a day-to-day basis. Care by a hospitalist can be especially helpful for patients who live outside of the Marquette area.
Dr. Ittner is board certified in family medicine and also has additional qualifications in addiction medicine and geriatrics. He completed a teaching fellowship at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his residency at the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program, and he earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan. He earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University.

Marc Himes, MD; Emergency Medicine Physician James Addison, MD; Obstetrician-Gynecologist William Addison, MD; Infectious Disease Specialist John Wallace, MD; Cardiovascular-thoracic surgeon James Klena, MD; and Hospitalist Anne Reese, MD.
The award has been presented annually since 2004.
