Pedestrian safety presented to first-grade students at Father Marquette Elementary School

Father Marquette Elementary School first-grade students learn about pedestrian safety and common traffic signals from Marquette General Hospital EMS Paramedic Gary Gustafson.

Pedestrian-related crashes are the second leading cause of injury-related deaths for children 5-14 years of age. Gustafson also explained safe street crossing and intersection safety. Carrier & Gable, Inc. of Farmington Hills customized the traffic signals so they could be adapted for classroom use.

The Marquette Fire Department and Marquette Police Department assisted with the presentation.
