Marquette General acquires
neurosurgery practice
Marquette General Health System announces the
acquisition of Northern Neurosurgery Group, effective January
1, 2007. The practice name has changed to Marquette General Neurosurgery.
Neurosurgeons Dr.
Craig Coccia and Dr.
Richard Rovin originally formed the Northern Neurosurgery
Group practice in 1993.
In welcoming the group to the Marquette General Physician Network,
Marquette General Health System CEO Bill Nemacheck said, “The
neurosurgeons and their team of office personnel have established
an outstanding reputation of quality, patient safety, and excellent
customer service for their patients throughout the region. This
reputation is a match for the mission and focus of MGHS, and we’re
extremely pleased to welcome them as part of our health system.”
Neurosurgeon Craig Coccia, M.D., said, “I’m particularly
pleased with the whole concept of the team of neuroscience specialists
under one roof. We want to make things as convenient as possible
for patients, with same-day referrals from one neurological specialty
to another.
“We’re continuing our momentum in a very positive
direction, with emphasis on seamless access to imaging, lab services,
diagnostics, surgical and non-surgical treatment, and follow-up
care,” Coccia said.
The neurosurgery practice change will also benefit patients far
into the future.
“One of my life-long goals has been to do research,”
said Dr. Rovin. “Since the launch of the Upper
Michigan Brain Tumor Center two years ago, we’ve already
made exciting progress in our genetic research with NMU, and the
change in ownership of the office practice will allow me to devote
more time and energy to my research as well as my patients.”
“Our ability to recruit physicians has always been one of
our strong points,” Nemacheck said. “In order to maintain
that strength, we’ve recognized that most of the physicians
coming out of residency programs expect to join hospital-owned
physician practices. This trend is likely to continue, and we’re
adapting to assure that we’ll always be able to attract
the high caliber of physician that our Health System is noted
for.”
Other than the name change, the transition of the office into
Marquette General Health System will create minimal changes for
patients.
The Marquette General Neurosurgery office will remain in its current
location in the Marquette General Neuroscience
Center on the Skywalk on the hospital campus, and the neursurgeons
will continue to provide outreach clinics throughout the region
as they have for more than a decade.
