MGHS, Medtronic to sponsor “Movement for Living”
Seminar to address people who have muscle stiffness and spasms
The
Upper Michigan
Neuroscience Center at Marquette General Health
System and Medtronic Neurological will co-sponsor
a free patient education seminar targeting people with muscle stiffness
and spasms due to cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, spinal
cord injury or brain injury.
The Movement for Living seminar, which will be held from 2:30 to
4:30 p.m. (check-in at 2 p.m.) on Thursday, Feb. 24, in the Conference
Center at Marquette General, will feature Dr.
Carl F. Eiben, Director
of Rehabilitation and Pain
Management at MGHS.

Dr. Eiben, a board certified physical medicine and rehabilitation
and pain management specialist on staff at Marquette General,
will speak on spasticity management with an emphasis on intrathecal
baclofen therapy (ITB). This therapy provides relief from spasms
using small doses of medication using a programmable pump.
Dr. Eiben performed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation
at University of Minnesota Hospital. He earned his medical degree
from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia,
and his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University.
Also speaking at the seminar will be a Movement for Living Ambassador,
who will share personal experiences and answer questions about
the benefits of ITB therapy.
