Marquette General Hospital gets high marks in national Medicare Patient Satisfaction Survey
Marquette General Hospital scored at and above both national and state averages in a national Medicare Patient Satisfaction Survey released Friday.
The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) released results of a survey about adult patients’ experience of their care at Marquette General Hospital, along with 2,500 other hospitals. This information is now publicly available for the first time at the Hospital Quality Alliance’s (HQA) Web site Hospital Compare (www.HospitalCompare.hhs.gov).
“We are sharing this information on the Hospital Compare Web site because we believe it’s important to be transparent with the public about the quality of care Marquette General provides to its patients,” said Marquette General CEO A. Gary Muller, FACHE. “I am extremely pleased that the overall rating of our hospital, and the patients’ willingness to recommend our hospital exceeds state and national levels.”
The new HCAHPS data provides a baseline of how hospitals are doing in handling patients’ routine needs. Data from the patient survey provides a standardized look at hospital care in 10 areas, including communication with doctors and nurses, responsiveness of staff, communication about medication, pain management, discharge information, the hospital’s quietness and cleanliness, and the patient’s willingness to recommend the hospital to others.
Marquette General encourages patients to talk with their physicians about the variety of factors that can have an impact on where a patient should go for care.
Two federal Department of Health and Human Services agencies conducted the survey as part of a pilot project called HCAHPS, aimed at providing an objective comparison of hospitals for consumers.
The HQA is a national public-private collaboration of hospital groups, consumer representatives, physician and nursing organizations, employers and payers, oversight organizations and government agencies dedicated to encouraging hospitals to voluntarily collect and provide easily accessible quality of care information to the public. The goal of the HQA’s Hospital Compare Web site is to give consumers a broad look at the quality of hospital care nationwide.
