physicians elect medical staff officers
Neurologist Dr. Debra J. Morley elected Chief of Staff
Debra J. Morley,
M.D., Ph.D., has been elected by her peers as Chief of Staff at
Marquette General Health System. She replaces outgoing Chief of
Staff Dr. Kenneth Davenport, an orthopaedic surgeon.
Anatomic
and clinical pathologist Dr. George Krzymowski serves as vice
chief of staff, and Dr. Mark Washnock, a board certified anesthesiologist,
was elected secretary/treasurer. All officers of the medical staff
serve for two-year terms.
“This
is an exciting time to serve as Chief of Staff at Marquette General,”
said Dr. Morley. “Our medical staff is growing in many new
directions. We have recently added a bariatric surgeon, neurosurgeon,
hand surgeon, and physicians in several other specialties. We
also anticipate the arrival of an endocrinologist this summer.
“The physicians have always worked closely with the hospital’s
administration on focal points such as patient centered care and
quality services,” Morley said. “As health care continues
to change, we strive to identify best medical practice methods
for optimal patient outcome. This can only be accomplished through
a dedicated team effort among hospital employees, physicians and
hospital administration.”

Chief Executive Officer Bill Nemacheck said that Marquette
General has always had an exemplary group of physicians
willing to be elected to office.
"Dr.
Morley is among this highly respected group of physicians
who volunteer their time, energy and vision,” Nemacheck
said, “to assure that the level of care provided at
Marquette General and its clinics is of the highest quality.
In fact, our recent recognition as a 100 Top Cardiovascular
Hospital and our verification as a Level II Trauma Center
would not have been possible without strong physician leadership
and passion." |
According
to Chief Medical Officer Stanley Russin, M.D., the medical staff
currently comprises some 370 individuals, including physicians,
podiatrists, psychologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners
and dentists. Their education, training and references have passed
rigorous reviews by the medical staff officers, hospital administration,
and the hospital’s board of trustees.
As newly elected Chief of Staff, Dr. Morley chairs the medical
staff executive committee. This committee includes physician representatives
elected by their peers from the nine medical staff departments
including emergency medicine, family medicine, medicine, internal
medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry,
radiology, and surgery.
The executive committee works closely with the hospital administration
and board, and is responsible for the oversight of the medical
staff, including monitoring for the highest quality of patient
care and safety, as well as appropriate physician qualification.
The medical staff executive committee is also involved in development
of new patient care programs and acquisition of new equipment
and technologies.
Dr. Morley has joined the medical staff of Marquette General in
1990. She is a practicing member of Marquette General Neurology,
an integral part of the Marquette General Neuroscience Center.
Board certified in neurology, Morley earned her medical degree
a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in medical genetics from Indiana University
School of Medicine. Her neurology residency was completed at the
University of Michigan.
A native of Alpena, Michigan, Dr. Morley received her bachelor
of science degree from Lake Superior State University in Sault
Ste. Marie. She resides in Marquette with her husband and two
children.
