Linell McLaughlin earns oncology nurse certification
Linell McLaughlin, assistant nurse manager for Marquette General Hospital’s Medical/Oncology (cancer treatment) unit, has passed the Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN) exam administered in October.

McLaughlin graduated from Northern Michigan University Cum Laude in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She began her career at Marquette General in 1989 as a Nurse Tech in Neurology, and then was a staff nurse in oncology for 18 years. Since May 2007, she has been Assistant Nurse Manager in oncology.
The OCN exam tests the knowledge necessary for the nurse to practice competently at the basic level, within the specialty of oncology nursing. Oncology nursing certification is available to nurses who have a current, active, unrestricted RN licensure; a minimum of 12 months of experience as an RN within the three years prior to application; a minimum of 1,000 hours of oncology nursing practice within the two-and-one-half years prior to application; and completed a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education in the specialty of oncology nursing or an academic elective in oncology nursing.
A native of Grand Marais, McLaughlin resides in Marquette with her husband, Danny, her
7-year-old daughter, Kiara, and her 11-year-old son, Bailey.
