Marquette General employee earns hand therapist certification

Rich Matthews, occupational therapist for the Marquette General Rehabilitation Center, has earned certification as a hand therapist. He joins Aaron Lautenschlager, also a certified hand therapist and occupational therapist.

The Certified Hand Therapist credential is recognized by many professional organizations as a benchmark for excellence in advanced specialty credentialing in health care.
Both Matthews and Lautenschlager are located at Marquette General Hospital. Becky Bonner, who is also an occupational therapist, will continue to offer therapy services at Doctors Park Rehab in Escanaba.

As a certified hand therapist, Matthews, Lautenschlager and Bonner specialize in rehabilitating patients with conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. They are also part of the Marquette General Hand Surgery and Services team, where they work to achieve the maximum return of function for hand surgery patients by guiding them through the evaluation, treatment and discharge process while coordinating and communicating with their physicians.

Matthews has been employed at Marquette General for 13 years as an occupational therapist for home health, inpatient psychiatric, outpatient neurology and orthopedic, and most recently hand therapy.

Matthews earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Saginaw Valley University.
