Barbara Massey earns oncology
nurse certification
Registered Nurse Barbara Massey, nurse manager
in the oncology (cancer treatment) and medical units at Marquette
General Hospital, has passed the Oncology Nurse Certification
(OCN) exam.
Massey is one of 1,276 nurses (77% of the candidates) who passed
the ONC Examination given in October.

She began her career at Marquette General in 1988 as a nurse tech
on the medical unit while earning her bachelor of science in nursing
degree at Northern Michigan University.
After earning her BSN degree in 1988, she has held management
positions on afternoon and day shifts in the oncology and medical
units. She was appointed to the position of day shift nurse manager
of the combined oncology and medical units in December 2006.
A native of Midland, Massey is married to her husband Ed, from
Grand Marais.
The OCN tests the knowledge necessary for the nurse to practice
competently within the specialty of oncology nursing. Certification
was introduced in 1986. The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation,
an allied corporation of the Oncology Nursing Society, develops,
administers and evaluates programs for certification in oncology
nursing.
