Marquette General employees receive Leader Among Peers Award

Family Medicine Physician Dr. John Groeneveld, of Marquette Medical Clinic – Kingsford, and Physician Assistant Mick Kreis, of Marquette General Family Medicine (formerly FamilyCare Doctors), are the recipients of the Leader Among Peers Award given by the Marquette General Medical Group.

Dr. Groeneveld and Kreis were presented the award by Dr. Frederick Hoenke, vice president and medical director of physician practices and regional operations for the Marquette General Medical Group, at a recent annual provider retreat.

The award recognizes both for consistently demonstrating integrity, dedication, commitment, caring, optimism, steadfastness, adaptability, excellence in patient care, involvement, and a desire to continue life-long learning. “It was a privilege and honor to present the Leader Among Peers Award to Dr. Groeneveld and Mick Kreis, who emulate the qualities of leadership every day,” said Dr. Hoenke.

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Groeneveld has been treating patients for the past 20 years. He completed his internship and residency at Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals in Saginaw, Mich., and earned his medical degree and undergraduate degree at Michigan State University.

Board certified as a physician assistant, Kreis has been treating patients for more than 16 years at both the Marquette and Trenary clinics. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma School of Health Care Sciences, and earned his associate’s degree at Alpena Community College in Alpena, Mich. Kreis also served in the United State Air Force from 1973-93.
