MGHS welcomes neurologist, Joav Kofman, MD

Neurologist Dr. Joav Kofman has joined the Marquette General Neurology practice. He joins Dr. Roman Politi and Dr. P.C. Gupta at the Marquette General Brain and Spine Center, formerly the Marquette General Neuroscience Center.

With more than 18 years of experience treating patients, Dr. Kofman comes to Marquette from Coeur D’Alene, ID., where he provided care to patients with neurological disorders for eight years.


As a neurologist, Dr. Kofman provides diagnosis and treatment for disorders of the nervous system: the brain, spinal cord and nerves. He also provides botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders, and also treats conditions that include muscle disorders, pain, memory loss, epilepsy, neuritis, brain and spinal cord tumors, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, myasthenia gravis and muscular dystrophy.


Patients may need a neurology consultation if they are experiencing dizziness, seizures, blackouts, numbness, tingling, weakness, paralysis, or lack of coordination. Those with diseases such as diabetes, hypertension or cancer may also be referred to a neurologist.


Board certified in neurology, Dr. Kofman completed his EMG/Neuromuscular disease fellowship from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. He completed his residency at Columbus Hospital and at Rush-Presbyterian – St. Luke’s Medical Center, both located in Chicago, Ill. He earned his medical degree at the Chicago Medical School.
