Participants in the Healthy
Weight Journal Challenge have lost another 35.25 pounds, increasing
their total weight loss to 240.5 pounds.
At this week’s weigh-in at Marquette General Hospital, two
of the participants, Renee Deroche and Nancy Lindstrom, weighed
in below the 200-pound barrier.

Deroche lost 6 pounds and went from 204 to 198 pounds. Lindstrom
lost 6.25 pounds and went from 202.5 to 196.25 pounds.
“When I started this program we had to set a goal,”
Lindstrom said. “In the six-month period I had wanted to
lose 25 pounds. I have gone beyond that.”
Lindstrom said she can’t remember the last time she weighed
under 200 pounds.
“So, this is a big accomplishment,” she said.
Lindstrom added that controlling the portions she eats and increasing
her exercise has helped her weight loss.
“I’ve been walking,” she said. “I’m
trying to add time to my walking routine or distance.”
She said that she has heightened her pace so much that she wants
to start jogging soon but has to evaluate how well her knees respond
to the increased impact.
Lindstrom plans to set a new goal, but she hasn’t decided
yet how much more weight she wants to lose.
Participant David Petrovich said losing only 2 pounds over the
past month was due to his vacation in July.
“Most of July I was eating out,” he said. “Now
it’s time to switch gears again.”
He said he plans to focus on accurately measuring his food and
logging it into the program’s balance log that helps calculate
calorie intake.
The Healthy Weight Journal Challenge started in May with 11 people
dedicating themselves to losing weight by eating healthy and exercising
regularly. The six-month program is sponsored by The Mining Journal
and Marquette General Hospital.
