Upper Michigan Rehab Center at MGH now
offering Hot Stone Massage

The Upper Michigan
Rehabilitation Center, a
service of Marquette General Hospital, has added Hot Stone Massage
to complement its diverse Massage
Therapy Program.
Stone massage involves the application of water-heated basalt stones to key
points on the body, creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat
relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular
massage.
The warmer stones expand blood vessels, pushing blood and unwanted waste materials
through the body. This has a sedative effect on the nervous system.
“Hot Stone Massage is a deep healing and unique experience,” said
Erik Winkleman, Massage Therapist at the Upper Michigan Rehabilitation Center. “Stone
massage makes one feel deeply relaxed, allowing him/her to release stress that
is held within the body.”
Research suggests that those experiencing a hot stone massage notice a healing
improvement of the following symptoms:
· Muscular aches, pains, sprains, and strains
· Poor circulation
· Arthritic conditions
· Fibromyalgia
· Back pain
· Stress, anxiety and tension
· Insomnia
· Depression
MGHS massage therapists are available Monday through Friday by appointment.
A 60-minute Hot Stone Massage is $50, while a 90-minute session is $70. Traditional
Swedish/Deep Tissue Massages are $25 for a 30-minute session; $40 for a 60-minute
session; and $60 for a 90-minute session.
Massage Gift Certificates are available for sale.
To schedule an appointment, call 225-3186 or 1-800-562-9753 ext. 3186.
The Upper Michigan Rehabilitation Center is located on the third floor of the
