Big Bay Grade School received 12 monitors, supporting equipment and computer software valued at $3,000.

The monitor kit donation was made possible from money raised at last year’s Ski and Snowshoe For Young Hearts event held at Maple Lanes in Skandia. Money raised annually is used to purchase heart monitors for local schools in an effort to educate youth about the importance of regular exercise and a healthful diet.

The Upper Michigan Heart Institute at Marquette General Health System, Bell Hospital and Upper Michigan Cardiovascular Associates sponsored this year’s 5th Annual event on Feb. 4. Nearly $4,500 was raised.
