Rabbi
Kushner keynotes Grief Conference November 2
Rabbi Harold
S. Kushner, author of the international best seller, When Bad
Things Happen to Good People, will present the keynote address
at this year’s Grief Conference, slated for Thursday, November
2, in the Great Lakes Rooms on the campus of Northern Michigan
University.

Rabbi Harold S. Kushner
Kushner will highlight his heartfelt message that inspires people
to become more involved with the world and their lives. He provides
guidance for dealing with loss, grief, crises of faith, and the
moral and spiritual complications of day-to-day life. His message
focuses on responding to heartbreak with understanding rather
than bitterness and despair.
Other books by Rabbi Kushner include Overcoming Life’s Disappointments,
Living a Life that Matters and How Good Do We Have to Be?
Joining Kushner as presenters are Mary Jane Tremethick, Ph.D.
of Northern Michigan University and Jeanne Coleman, Ed.D. of Columbia
University.
Tremethick will discuss the variety of physical, psychological,
social, spiritual, and practical concerns faced by caregivers,
families and terminally ill patients. Her presentation will focus
on difficult, sensitive and pressing issues that surround the
end of life. She will also offer insight on ways to improve end-of-life
care in formal and informal settings.
Tremethick is an associate professor of health, physical education
and recreation at Northern Michigan University. She is also an
appointee to the Michigan State Advisory Council on Aging and
the author of several publications focused on aging issues.
Coleman’s presentation will focus on helping children cope
with loss and change. Adults will learn how to communicate sensitively,
tactfully, and in an age-appropriate way when children have questions
about serious illness, death, separation, divorce, moving, natural
tragedies and wars.
Coleman is an adjunct professor at Columbia University in New
York, a consultant, and the author of Learning about Loss within
a Health Education Program.
This conference
is co-sponsored by Canale-Tonella Funeral Home, Inc.; Lake Superior
