and pneumonia.
The Governor’s staff and MPRO honored hospital awardees with a special
ceremony in May at the Capitol Rotunda in Lansing.
In concert with Governor Jennifer Granholm, the Governor’s Award of Excellence
honors Michigan hospitals that are performing quality initiatives aimed at
improving patient care in the areas outlined above, along with surgical infection
prevention.
The clinical topics measured for the award have been designated as national
healthcare priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Marquette General has a dedicated multidisciplinary team to spearhead improvement
measures using proven, evidence-based practices.
Bill Nemacheck, chief executive officer of Marquette General, said the physicians,
medical staff and the entire MGHS team of employees are dedicated to providing
the absolute best in patient care.
“Our efforts have been enhanced through our quality improvement collaborations
with MPRO,” he said. “We are extremely proud of our physicians and
staff in earning this distinguished award.”
“Governor Granholm’s endorsement of this award for hospitals is a
testament of her commitment to improving the quality of health care in Michigan,” said
Debra L. Moss, MD, MBA, president and chief executive officer, MPRO.
“As Michigan’s Quality Improvement Organization, MPRO is honored
to partner with the Governor to recognize hospitals like Marquette General that
are achieving measured improvements in patient care, and more importantly, saving
lives in the process.”

is the result of tremendous teamwork.
“It’s a great honor to accept the Governor’s Award for Excellence
on behalf of Marquette General’s quality management department, administration,
