MMC-Iron River employee earns medical coder certification
Judy
Girard, Assistant Director of Clinic Business Operations at the
Marquette Medical
Clinic-Iron River, has completed
the Association of Registered Health Care Professionals (ARHCP)
certification examination to become a Registered Medical Coder
(RMC).

Judy Girard
The ARHCP describes a RMC as a highly skilled individual educated
to exhibit expertise in a variety of coding fields. A RMC’s
main responsibility is to review medical records and assign each
diagnosis or procedure a code for reimbursement purposes.
“I’ve been a medical coder for close to 25 years, but my certification
will help further ensure provider network billing compliance,” Girard said. “The
test was very comprehensive.”
It took Girard some 20 hours of self-study to prepare for the exam, which covered
three main components of medical coding: essentials of medical coding; essentials
of evaluation and management; and Medicare essentials.
MMC-Iron River, a service of Marquette General Health System, specializes
in general practice family medicine. The clinic also provides specialty services
in allergy, cardiology, oncology, neurology and pediatric endocrinology.
