Blaise Winter, a former defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers and San Diego Chargers, tours the country as a motivational speaker, inspiring thousands of people with his personal story of triumph over adversity. He crisscrosses the country, speaking to groups and sharing the secrets to his success.

The conference is scheduled to be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, in the Marquette General Conference Center. Winter will speak from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on “The Use of Steroids and Drug Enhancements: How They Adversely Affect Our Youth.”

The conference kicks off at 2:15 p.m. with Julie Rochester, a certified athletic trainer from Northern Michigan University, addressing “Overuse Injuries in Children and Adolescents.”

Following Winter’s presentation, Dr. John Lehtinen and an MGHS panel will discuss, “Common Sports Injuries — Our Number is 3-1-8-6, Call Us When You Need a Fix.” Dr. Lehtinen is a family practice physician who runs the Sports Injury Clinic at Marquette General Hospital. Nationally known as one of the most knowledgeable physicians in treating athletic injuries, Dr. Lehtinen is the chief medical officer for the United States Olympic Education Center located at Northern Michigan University, and is the Northern Michigan University team physician.

The “In the Game” conference is geared for athletes, parents, coaches and sports medicine trainers. There is a nominal fee of $5.

“We’re very excited to have Blaise Winter speak at the conference,” Dr. Lehtinen said. “He’s an outstanding motivational speaker, and his words are certain to hit home with those who attend. It’s an honor to have an ex-NFL player like Winter join us.”

A special conference rate has been established for out-of-town guests at several Marquette hotels and motels. For more information, call the MGH Education Department at 906-225-3470.
