Michigan Health & Hospital Association Elects 2009 Officers and Board Members
Marquette General Health System President and CEO, A. Gary Muller, FACHE, elected board member
Marquette General Health System President and CEO, A. Gary Muller, FACHE, was recently elected a 2009 board member for the Michigan Health & Hospital Association during the association’s Annual Membership Meeting, held June 24, 2009.
As a board member for MHA, Muller is committed to promoting better health within Michigan’s communities, improving the quality of patient care, and improving coverage for high-quality, affordable health care services for all Michigan residents. He will also help to provide a strategic assessment of emerging healthcare trends to help MHA members develop a framework to meet current and future needs of their communities.

“It’s essential for hospitals in the Upper Peninsula to have a strong voice at the state level, especially with the recent cuts in the state budget, and with the impending changes coming from Washington,” said Muller. “As a newly appointed board member, I will be one those voices as we face these healthcare challenges.”
Muller was among many other Michigan health care professionals to be elected a board member, and they include Mary Lou McFadden, president of the Michigan Association of Healthcare Advocates, Allegiance Health, Jackson; Gene Michalski, executive vice president/COO, Beaumont Hospitals, Troy; and Matthew Van Vranken, executive vice president, Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids.
Current MHA board member K. Douglas Deck, president & CEO, Munson Healthcare, Traverse City, was re-appointed to a new term of service.
Current MHA board members who will continue their terms of service are James Bogan, president & CEO, Portage Health, Hancock; Brian Connolly, president & CEO, Oakwood Healthcare Inc., Dearborn; Thomas DeFauw, president & CEO, Port Huron Hospital; Michael Duggan, president & CEO, Detroit Medical Center; William Jackson, president, Charlevoix Area Hospital; Paul LaCasse, DO, president & CEO, Botsford Hospital, Farmington Hills.
