Stock gift to Marquette General Foundation used to purchase new computers on campus
Local couple gifts more than $17,000
A number of family waiting areas on the campus of Marquette General Hospital now have new personal computers featuring Internet access.
That’s because a generous local couple, pleased with the care the husband received while a patient at Marquette General, gifted more than $17,000 in stock to the Marquette General Foundation. Their wish was to provide additional computers with Internet access for families and friends from across the Upper Peninsula to use while visiting loved ones.
With the gift, 17 computers and monitors were purchased and installed for visitor use in a number of areas.

“We’re happy to help in this way,” the couple, who prefer anonymity, said. “We’re very fortunate to have a very good hospital, with a number of quality people, in our community. Marquette General is second to none.”
Gary Muller, FACHE, CEO and President of Marquette General, had an opportunity to meet and thank the couple when they toured the hospital to see first hand how their Gift is at Work.
“It’s a great gift,” Muller said. “Already, as I walk through the halls, I see quite a few people using the computers. It’s a gift that really enhances our waiting areas. We’re very thankful.”
Working with the Information Technology Department at Marquette General, the Marquette General Foundation communicated to the couple 17 areas that would benefit from the gift. After being provided this information, the couple graciously agreed to fund the entire project.
“When we first learned of this, we were quite amazed,” said Jim Sundberg, Director of IT at Marquette General. “This kind of funding had not been included in the capital budget. So, without this gift, our hospital wouldn’t have been able to make that investment. This kindness makes me realize the importance philanthropy plays.”
