‘Committed to Kids’
New classes beginning Tuesday, Jan. 10, for medically supervised
Weight Management services at Marquette General
A successful fall program is nearly over for
the “Committed to Kids” Weight Management Services
at Marquette General Hospital.
The medically supervised program — geared for youth ages
7 to 17 — is now accepting applicants for its winter session,
scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Enrollment for the next
11-week session will be held through Friday, Jan. 6. A one-year
program commitment is strongly recommended.
Since the program began, a dozen kids have continued to re-enroll
with the program each session. Continued enrollment helps reinforce
the lifestyle changes learned in the program.
The “Committed to Kids” program is an individual approach
conducted in a group setting. Each child receives a baseline assessment
(medical, behavioral, nutritional and fitness) at the beginning
of the program. Following the baseline assessment, the team and
child set individual goals.
After the first 11 weeks, the “Committed to Kids”
team meets with each family to set new goals.
“Our ‘Committed to Kids’ program is designed
to make learning about a healthy lifestyle fun, and it gives youth
a chance to experience success with weight loss,” said Dr.
John Bartlett, a board-certified pediatrician and internist who
helps oversee the program.
The “Committed to Kids” team includes pediatricians,
registered dietitians, exercise specialists, behavior therapists,
recreation therapists and nurses.
