Colon and rectal disease specialist offers clinics at Doctors Park

Board certified colon and rectal disease specialist Dr. James Surrell will see patients by appointment March 24 and April 14 at Doctors Park, Suite 100, Escanaba. Dr. Surrell, of the Marquette General Digestive Health Clinic, is on the medical staff of Marquette General Hospital.

Patients with symptoms such as hemorrhoids/rectal bleeding; irritable bowel; anal incontinence; constipation; anal pain or itching; anal fissure or fistula may wish to make an appointment with Dr. Surrell. Other symptoms addressed by Dr. Surrell include recurring or ongoing diarrhea; abdominal pain; constipation; perianal abscess; and diverticulitis/diverticulosos.

Anyone over the age of 50, or with a family history of colorectal cancer, should be seen for a colorectal cancer and polyp screening. There are no early symptoms of colon cancer or polyps.

Dr. Surrell is a recognized expert in the field of colon and rectal disease, having authored chapters in medical textbooks on the subject.

He completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Ferguson Hospital in Grand Rapids; his general surgery residency at Blodgett Medical Center in Grand Rapids, and his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing. A native of Newberry, Dr. Surell earned his bachelor's degree at Northern Michigan University in Marquette.
