MGHS recognizes Outstanding
Citizens
3 employees honored at annual MGHS Employee Awards Banquet
Unselfish, uncommon and highly appreciated.
These are a few qualities the 2005 Marquette General Health System
Outstanding Citizens award-winners share. From the workplace to
their communities, MGHS employees are dedicated to helping others.

Since 1998, MGHS has honored and recognized three employees who
exceed the expectations of others by helping people throughout
their communities. Each year, three MGHS employees are chosen
to receive the MGHS Outstanding Citizen Award. The awards recognize
employees and their community involvement and commitment. One
employee from MGH, Home Health & Hospice and Clinic are selected
for the award.
Each recipient received a plaque in honor of his or her service.
The 2005 MGHS Outstanding Citizen Awards go to: Vicki Anderson
(MGH), Susan King (Home Health & Hospice, Kingsford) and Kim
Spranger (Clinic, Escanaba). Each has displayed outstanding performances
in their jobs and their communities.
The three award winners were recognized at the annual MGHS Employee
Awards Banquet held in November at the Holiday Inn of Marquette.
Employees with 10, 15 and 20 or more years of service were also
acknowledged at the dinner.
Anderson, a Dietetic Technician, has volunteered her time and
expertise to a variety of organizations throughout Marquette County.
For 19 years, Anderson has been involved with the Boy Scouts.
She teaches the scouts about food safety, caloric needs, food
preparation and menu planning. As an 18-year blood donor, she
contributes to the physical and emotional needs of her community.
For the past 15 years, Anderson has been a member of the Marquette
and Negaunee Luge Association. She volunteers time to the Superiorland
Kiwanis Club by helping organize projects and fund-raisers, including
the community Christmas Dinner and Project Graduation.
Overall, Anderson’s community involvement helps improve
the well being of her fellow citizens.
King is a Patient Care Coordinator at Marquette General Home Health
& Hospice-Kingsford. For the last five years, she has organized
Christmas Gift Drives for needy families. This past year, she
planned a Back to School Supply Drive.
By collecting more than $700 from MGHH&H, Marquette Medical
Clinic and North Country Medical Associates, King has also been
able to involve her community. On her days off, she contacts local
businesses about donating, shops for the items and delivers the
items. Many lunch hours are spent wrapping gifts for families.
King has made a difference in the lives of many families throughout
the Kingsford area.
Spranger is a Supervisor in Physical Therapy at the Upper Michigan
Rehabilitation Center-Escanaba. She often opens her home to family
and friends to host soccer nights, horse clubs, snowshoe parties
and scrapbook parties. For Spranger, being active in the community
means encouraging other families to get involved.
In addition to starting a women’s band, she’s also
the lead singer of her church band. Spranger travels with both
bands, performing at community, church and other social events.
She has also organized a youth group, Trail Blazers, who dress
up as clowns to entertain at parades and parties.
Spranger’s community involvement has made her well known
in her community.
MGHS Chief Executive Officer Bill Nemacheck said the award-winners
characterize the commitment MGHS employees have in their communities.
“We are very proud of our employees for the dedication,
time and work they give to their communities,” Nemacheck
said. “Vicki, Susan and Kim should be proud of their accomplishments.
The tireless commitment they give back to their communities is
remarkable. These three women are well-respected community leaders
… we’re fortunate to have them on the MGHS Team.”
