Marquette General Health System CEO selected
At its regular meeting last night, the Marquette General Health System Board of Trustees approved a recommendation from the CEO Search Committee to extend an offer to one of the candidates interviewed for the position.
The identity of the CEO candidate is not being released pending acceptance of the offer, and a firm arrival timeline has not been finalized.
With the assistance of an executive search firm, a nationwide search yielded more than two hundred applicants. These were narrowed to a field of six who were invited to Marquette in early September for onsite interviews. An undisclosed number of finalists were invited for a second round of interviews.
Marquette General Health System Board President Tim Larson said, “The Board is very pleased with the way the selection process has moved forward. It’s been a very collaborative process including physicians, employee representatives, and members of the U.P. community.
“The caliber of the candidates has been excellent, with individuals from a very broad geographic base, and with the qualifications and experience that we’re looking for,” Larson said. “The individual at the helm of Marquette General is also a key figure in community life, not only in Marquette County, but throughout the region. That’s why we felt it was essential to involve several community leaders from throughout the region in an opportunity to meet the finalists.”
Larson credited retiring CEO Bill Nemacheck with setting a tone of collaboration, optimism, and employee advocacy during some of Marquette General Health System’s most challenging times.
