Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center offering upcoming
support groups
The Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center, a service
of the Upper Michigan
Neuroscience and Cancer
Centers at Marquette General Health System, will be holding
support groups for patients, friends and family members who have
been affected by brain tumors.
The Hope Starts Here Support Group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6,
in the MGH Conference Center.
Martha Smith-Process, a licensed social worker on staff at Marquette
General, will lead the group discussion. Participants will determine
future topics.
The Support Group is designed to provide a safe and welcoming
environment for patients and families to share experiences. Adults,
young adults and children who have benign or malignant brain tumorsare
encouraged to attend.
The Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center is designed to provide traditional
management options for patients, as well as clinical and science
research. Its mission is to empower patients through advocacy,
education, treatment and research. The support group, newsletter,
resource center and foundation are designed to enhance the patient’s
quality of survival.
The Brain Tumor Center is a collaborative effort among medical
oncology, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation medicine,
nursing and social services at Marquette General, and the Biology
Department at Northern Michigan University.
