Bone Marrow Donor Drive to be held at Doctors Park in Escanaba

The Marquette General Cancer Center, in conjunction with the Michigan Blood Center, will hold a Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive on Friday, February 19, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Doctors Park, Suite 202, located at 2500 7th Ave, Escanaba, Mich.

Registering to donate is free of charge, pain-free and simple. Donors must be between the ages of 18-60, fill out a questionnaire and do a quick swab on the inside of the mouth (no blood is drawn).

Bone marrow transplants may represent the best hope of survival for people with life-threatening blood diseases such as aplastic anemia and some kinds of leukemia.

Donors can be found within a patient’s family only about 30 percent of the time. The other 70 percent of patients need to find unrelated volunteer donors.

No appointments are necessary. For more information, please call (906) 225-3500.
