MGHS Board of Trustees appoints two new members
NMU President Les Wong and Howard Cohodas gain posts

Marquette General Health System Board of Trustees President Tim Larson is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to the MGHS Board.

Dr. Leslie Wong, president of Northern Michigan University, and Howard Cohodas, the retired president of the Michigan Financial Corporation (MFC), now Wells Fargo, are the newest additions.

“We are very fortunate and honored to have Dr. Wong and Mr. Cohodas on our Board,” Larson said. “They are dedicated, well-respected individuals who will admirably serve the needs of our Board.”

Dr. Wong came to NMU this summer from Valley City State University in North Dakota where he served as vice president for academic affairs. There, he was responsible for overseeing six academic divisions – including the technological curriculum, several offices, as well as corporate, regional and international partnerships.

Dr. Wong’s previous administrative positions include provost and academic vice president, along with six months as interim president, at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo; and academic dean at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash., where he began as a faculty member.

Dr. Wong holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., a master’s degree in experimental psychology from Eastern Washington, and a doctorate in educational psychology from Washington State University.

He and his wife, Phyllis, reside in Marquette and have three adult children.

Cohodas began working at the First National Bank of Marquette in 1970, which became MFC in 1973. He served as president of MFC from 1989 to 2000. He was then regional president of Wells Fargo Bank — Michigan from March 2000 to September 2001.

Cohodas has served on the boards of the Marquette Community Foundation and the Marquette Rotary Foundation.

He earned his bachelor of arts degree and MBA degree from the University of Michigan.
Cohodas resides in Marquette.

Other officers of the Board include: Paulette Lindberg, Board Vice President, Richard R. Schaefer, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer, and Wayne A. Johnson, Secretary.

The Board also consists of Mark A. Aho; Mark L. Callaghan, MD; Monsignor Louis C. Cappo; William Jean, MD, Chief of Staff; Stephen C. Mattson; Lois A. Michelin; Larry Lewis, MD; the Rev. Paul A. Weber; and K. Charles Wright, MD.
