Emergency Department at MGH receives Assault Survivor Kits
The Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan, a non-profit volunteer service
organization with more than 180 members, recently donated a dozen Assault Survivor
Kits to the Emergency Department at Marquette General Hospital.
The kits provide
basic assistance to victims of sexual assault. Each kit, which contains
a new sweat suit, underwear and toiletries, is given to victims
whose clothing is
retained by police for criminal investigative purposes.

In the above
photo, volunteer Kathy Rogers, middle, with the Assistance
League, is shown holding a kit with MGH ED SANE nurses, from

Several registered
nurses in the ED at Marquette General recently attended a 45-hour Sexual
Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program in Ontonagon, with
the hopes of establishing
a SANE program at MGH. A SANE is an RN with advanced education and clinical
preparation in forensic examination of sexual assault victim.
