Dr.
Naomi Arenson
Board certification in clinical neurophysiology verifies Dr. Arenson’s qualifications to perform nerve conduction studies, such as nerve conduction velocity (NCV), Electromyogram (EMG) and Electroencephalogram (EEG). These studies are usually done together and test the nerves and muscles. EMG looks at the electrical activity of the muscles and can detect changes related to injury, such as pinched nerves or degenerative conditions. NVC looks directly at the time it takes for a nerve to send a signal from one area to a muscle. An electrical stimulus is delivered to the nerve and the response is recorded at a muscle. A common problem, carpal tunnel syndrome, is diagnosed using this test. EEG is a test that measures and records the electrical activity of the brain.
Dr. Arenson also provides diagnosis and treatment for disorders of the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Conditions treated by Dr. Arenson include muscle disorders, pain, epilepsy, neuritis, brain and spinal cord tumors, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, myasthenia gravis and muscular dystrophy.
Dr. Arenson completed her neurology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She earned her medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago. She completed a one-year fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the Rush Medical Center in Chicago.
